Movik ("we", "us") is a movie-recommendation app for iOS and Android operated by Jan Horák. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account data — if you create an account: your e-mail address and a hashed password.
- Taste signals — your in-app actions (swipes, ratings, watchlist changes, watched marks) with timestamps and an anonymous device identifier. This is the data the recommendation engine learns from.
- Usage & crash data — anonymous analytics and crash reports (Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics) to keep the app working.
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera data. We do not sell personal data and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
How we use it
- To build your personal taste profile and generate recommendations (including AI-generated summaries of your taste).
- To compute group recommendations when you join a movie-night group.
- To fix bugs and improve the product.
AI processing
Movik uses large language models to distill taste profiles and explain recommendations. The data sent to AI providers is limited to movie titles and anonymized taste summaries — never your e-mail or identity.
Data retention & deletion
You can delete your taste profile and all associated signals at any time: in the app under Profile → Settings → Delete my data, or via the links below. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.
Third-party services
- TMDB — movie metadata and poster images. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
- Google Firebase — analytics and crash reporting.
- OpenRouter — AI model access for taste distillation (anonymized data only).
Your rights
Under GDPR (EU) and CCPA (California) you may request access, correction, export or deletion of your personal data. Contact us at hello@movik.ai — we respond within 30 days.
Children
Movik is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
